Does crossbones need to be awakened?

I just took my 4 Star unduped crossbones to 4/40 because he’s dope on offense. Is he best when awakened?

He is better but only marginally. His awakened ability converts debuffs to fury. That is a reasonably useful ability on defense (particularly as it can immediately convert stun now and again, which can catch out less aware attackers), but offensively you shouldn't be getting hit with debuffs very often, so it's of very limited use. In reality having him unduped is fine.

Its about 25% chance to convert the debuff at a decent sig, not worth a gem of any type in my opinion.

No but he is crucial for spiked armor nodes

The conversion rate is pretty low, but occasionally he will convert the bleed/poison from AW nodes. Saved my butt a few times. That doesn't make it necessary, though.
