**WINTER OF WOE - BONUS OBJECTIVE POINT**
As previously announced, the team will be distributing an additional point toward milestones to anyone who completed the Absorbing Man fight in the first step of the Winter of Woe.
This point will be distributed at a later time as it requires the team to pull and analyze data.
The timeline has not been set, but work has started.
There is currently an issue where some Alliances are are unable to find a match in Alliance Wars, or are receiving Byes without getting the benefits of the Win. We will be adjusting the Season Points of the Alliances that are affected within the coming weeks, and will be working to compensate them for their missed Per War rewards as well.

Additionally, we are working to address an issue where new Members of an Alliance are unable to place Defenders for the next War after joining. We are working to address this, but it will require a future update.

Unfair AW matchmaking

Hi, I am member of ca. 8 mil. Alliance and we keep getting 12 mil. Opponents. The difference between us is huge, because attackers are eqally strong, but our defense has no chance to match theirs. So I wanna ask if there's some other alliance that keeps getting this strong opponents. This way we have lost about 85% matches in season, lowering our rewards significantly

You’ve been a victim of tanking. Much stronger alliances lose wars on purpose during the off-season to lower their war rating to get easier victories during the season. More wins easy wins gives them more points so they shoot up in the points system without their war rating going through the roof and having to face tougher opponents.

Do you have any clue how common is this among higher alliances ? It seems to me that it is very common...

    no he hasnt.

    it is off season RN.
if the allies he was facing were tanking he would be easily winning them and not complaining bout it.
the idea of allies tanking is the LOSE wars.

he is facing these stronger opponents and they keep WINNING causing him to lose.

It's the war rating that matches, not the alli strength, which in and of itself is not an indicator of skill. Case in point: we have a rating of 1600 but an alli strength of only 4m but we're undefeated in our last 10 wars against 8-12m alliances. Why? There's only 13 of us, we run 1 war group, and we're top-heavy putting in 5/50s on the low end of defense but mostly 4/55s.
You beat who's put in front of you, or you lose and find a way to improve.

to a certain point both are considered.
95 times out of 100 you will get matched with an ally close to your ally rating also.
you get mismatched more often as you get into higher tiers as there is less opponents to choose from.

if you are a 10mil ally with a war rating of 1000 you will preferably get matched with another 10mil ally with a war rating of 1000.
if there is no other 10mil ally looking at the time you may then get an 11mil ally with a war rating of 1000.

when you are in a low tier you very rarely see mismatched wars as there is 1000 other allies of same ally rating and war rating looking at the same time.

as you climb to a higher tier it becomes more likely you get mismatched as there is less opponents to choose from.
so by the time you are in tier 3 it seems ally rating isnt considered just because there are not many options for it to choose from.

if you spent a season in a tier 11 ally this is something that you would begin to see.
spend a season with a 6mil tier 11 ally and you will find most of your matches are going to be 4.5 - 7.5 mil opponents.
spend a season with a 10mil tier 11 ally and you will find most of your opponents are going to be 9-11 mil opponents.

at the top however when you go to find a match and you are 2500 war rating there is going to be so few other allies looking at the same time it cant closely match ally rating as often.

this is something i have collected extensive data on for the past 3 seasons.

if the matchmakining system did not do this then teir 11 4mill allies would be constantly facing tier 11 15mil allies which never happens.
it used to do this 2years ago but does not do it anymore.
