Watch Prof Hoff's youtube video on when to stop ranking 4*s.
In Void's case, signature ability is a huge component and with the low chances to awaken a 5* without an awakening gem, 4* Void should get over on most game modes.
I have a 5/50 sig 99, 5/65 sig 200, and a 6* void. I ranked up and used the 4* version until I was able to awaken my 5* version. Then pulled a 6*. Then I ranked up my 5* over the 6*. His dupe makes a huge difference. Rank up the 4* then, when you eventually dupe your 5*, rank him up.
if u have dw mastery then unduped void will do fine. however if u do not have dw then rank up the duped void. I have a duped 4* void n just a week ago I unlocked dw n now my void kills without much of a fight. just dodge n see the health ticking away n the prey dying a helpless death.
Deep Wounds.
As for your original question, 4* Void is more than sufficient, especially if he's already Awakened. FotV (Fear of the Void) is crucial to his utility.
