Theres also the awakening gem from LOL which is much more accessible to players many completing it myself included with a 4 star starlord without spending any cash. Whats wrong with 3 awakening gems thats 3 guaranteed champions you could awaken, even with the previous pool people had 10 or even more 5 star pulls from the crystals without a dupe so duping a 5 star champion has never been easy to begin with, for some finishing LOL and buying that offer a while back was the first time they awakened a 5 star. Increasing the pool but also increasing the availability of 5 star awakening gems will actually be better than the previous system since you only have to pull a champion once even with the increased pool it statistically more like to pull 1 copy of a champion then awaken it than it is pull 2 of the same champion now. At the end of this year there will be 72 champion in the basic pool so you have a 1/72 chance to pull a specific champion and with an awakening gem that 1 is all you need to dupe the champion. Right now there are 48 champions in the basic pool so 1/48 chance to pull a champion but since you have to pul him again with a 1/48 chance the odds of you pulling 2 of the same champion is 1/96 so by having more awakening gems in game even with the expanded pool you are more likely to dupe a champion you want.

I'm not necessarily talking about only dupes. I really want Mordo, but the odds of getting him this time were (if I counted correctly) about a 2.5% chance of getting him. There's somewhere between 40-42 champs in the crystal currently, and that number is just gonna keep going up.
Listen, the only reason the four star crystal's randomness works is because there are other, more direct ways to get a four star. Arena comes to mind, and also that you can get four stars from other crystals. With five stars, outside of LOL (which is unthinkable for most of the community), you can't have any control over who you do and don't get. A small chance at the featured is it. Since five stars are so rare, there needs to be some loose control on things. This suggestion would do that.
Maybe you haven't been playing that long, because 4*s used to be hard to obtain as well, and look at them now. 5*s are still that shiny new toy that is hard to get, but now Kabam has made them easier to acquire them, and it will only get easier from here on out, just like 4*s are now, so I don't see your idea working. I don't know what their plans are but they might add a 5* arena is the future when 6*s comes out, or maybe not, who knows.
Your proposed system simply wouldn't work because it would break the natural progression of the game. The way your system would work is that the champions pools are based on release date which makes the most sense but would not work because everyone would wait for one specific pool with champion that would break all competitve aspects of the game if a large majority of players got a hold of them. 20 champions per pool would mean at the state of the game right now there would be 3 pools. If you look at the 5* champion pool list if the pools rotated by release date there would be a pool with hyperion, GP, hood, dormammu, archangel, iceman, stark spidey, cable, yondu and so many more amazing champions if you saved 3 or so crystal exclusively for this pool you are almost guaranteed an amazing champion. This would make it useless to go for the other pools of 5 stars and imbalance the progression of the game. Imagine fighting in alliance war were all the nodes were 4/55 dormammu, icemen and hyperions it would be a nightmare of a piece of content in game. The whole point of collecting champions in game is to collect multiple 5 stars until you pull one you really need. If you are almost guaranteed an amazing 5 star there would be no need for 4 stars since you are so regular pulling 5 stars that can cover all of your needs. There would be no more consistent path of progression once you start having 2 or 3 5 stars since you''ll almost guaranteed have a champion that completely sets you up to clear almost every piece of content in the game. MCOC is a slow grind you aren't supposed to just pull champions you want you have to take the good with the bad. The reason this game is so entertaining to play for a long time is the lengthy path of progression this game isn't meant for you to pull a great champion in your first few pulls there's a reason it is statistically unlikely for you to pull the champion you want. It takes years for people to pull the right champions to complete all the content in game and thats how the game works changing the pools so drastically now would not only be unfair to those who have spent years of chances on bad champions but also unfair to progressing players since the top who are popping anywhere form 1-3 5 stars a month will have all the best defenders and attackers the gap between mid tier and top players would be so large there'd be no point in trying to get to the top tiers of alliance war or alliance quests as for every 1 great champion a progressing player pulls for these forms of content a top player will pull 3 simply taking the competitive aspect of the game out completely
Hmmm a great idea, its easily noticeable how much thinking u have put into it, I am sorry but I FEEL it will make the game unbalanced. Mainly coz most ppl will hoard 5* crystal shards until they get a week when all the optimum heroes are available which will leave the balance out of game as all will have similar rosters of 5 stars
