Rank 5 Gem at Act 6.1 Completion

I haven't always been a free to play player but I haven't spent in the game for a while now and I plan to keep it that way.
I am on a path to save up 12k units and purchase that Rank 5 gem at the completion of Act 6.1. That would help me a few things:
1. Get second R5, my only current R5 is Sparky
2. use the items to do Variant, possible LOL as well
The other option is doing Act 6.1 and just using the units on Cavalier Crystals. It will take me about another 2 - 3 months to save the units.
Next R5 options: Domino, Blade, Magik, Medusa, Ghost, Quake
