Why is beginner difficulty of nick fury's recon quest different?

I'm finishing up all the recon quests and noticed the beginner difficulty week 1 is different from the other difficulties, with 6 paths instead of 2. Why is this?

Yeah, just auto-fight it for no energy. The only bad part now is that it's long and boring.
