Global chat default? Ugh!

Why not alliance chat default? I’ll lurk global occasionally but I’d rather have my people first. Instead we have to manually change it every time we login. Is this something that’s gotta be that way? Should I just add it to the list of things to do when I login? Switch chats, claim crystal, check AQ, check war? Just curious. It’s not a bug, just annoying.
