Class trip confusion

So i just presumed you would be able to play all difficulties of the class trips as per the last event, however after joining the basic thinking i could work my way up to the higher tiers as per the atlantian rift i received a message saying i would be locked into that difficulty.
So am i now locked in to the easiest tier for the whole event?
Also it said about completing in a certain time but there is no timer.

I feel these haven't really been explained properly

    There's no timer in this one thankfully. As for the difficulty, nope you're not locked. You just need to buy the permission slips of the desired difficulty and you're good to go!
