The only place GG can control MD is in Master mode of quest where he puts permanent powerlock on you during the fight.
You know one way they could have done it is that if he was Science his cunning passive could have been more effective against Mystic and stop them from gaining any power when active, then normal for the other classes except Skill where it would be less effective.
