The AI keeps launching specials mid 5 hit combo

I wouldn't have a fundamental issue with this mechanic is WE could do this on offense!

I'm fairly certain I could accomplish this mechanic using a game controller, but I'm going to need to see a youtube video on different device holding techniques from people who can replicate this mechanic on the attack.

I started noticing this mechanic when I started using OR seriously. In my admitted ham fisted way of playing OR, you push the defender against the wall and hold them there with 3-4 hit combos into their block to build and keep the spores on the defender. On longer fights, there have been many times the AI is able to launch a special somehow.

It's frustrating. One second, I'm hitting into a block. The next second, I whiff a hit during the start of the defender's special and then get combo'ed into oblivion.

Anyone else experiencing this?

    5 hit or 5 block? If you mean you are hitting into block you can do it as well if they are hitting into your block.

    Not really, ghost is phased during those blocks. He is not making contact.

    I watched it to the last 3 seconds and now see what you are talking about with kingpin, a time to start viewing would be helpful, most people are not going to sit through an entire video to look for one event.

    Yeah that last 3 seconds. Happens on a regular basis. Especially if you’re trying to create some distance or feed some power to push over a bar.

    Sadly, this is better for the AI than it will ever be for the player base. We routinely use it to stack spores, charges, or push the AI into chains of L1s that are easy to evade (EG Map 6-7 Thanos, etc). When they launch mid combo, it shuts this playstyle down. The AI getting interrupted with a special mid combo by a player is small beans as it is never a one shot for the player vs the AI, but nearly always for the AI vs a player in high end content.

    Yeah I also noticed that this wasn't an AI issue. There were a number of specials I was sneaking out of after getting clipped by the first part. Mephistos L1 was definitely one that I noticed frequently. It's just the nature of the game that makes this a disadvantage as the user will strike the opponent 10x as much as they strike us. I tried to really make a conscious note of every time it saved me so I'd get less angry when the AI wrecked me.

    Very cool, but players are still getting exploited because of this.

    I completely disagree with the mantra of "if we can do it, then the AI should too".

    The game works on the basic rule that the AI has to on some level play fairly, be predictable, and have weaknesses to where it doesn't completely decimate us.

    The AI usually lands 2 or 3 hit combos. Sometimes 4 and 5. Should it always do 5 hit combos since we can?

    The AI rarely if ever combines special attacks into their combos. Should the AI always end their combos with a special?

    Should it parry us every time we go in the way we can?

    Should the AI Quake and bake us?

    I will bet money that Thing is programmed to be more liberal with his specials when he has 15 rock stacks otherwise he can just trap us in the corner, get his unstoppable and smash away. Should Things on defense start playing smart too?

    Getting hit with specials while we punch into enemy blocks is an exploit and a game breaker. It's an AI behavior that should never be implemented in a fair game.

    It's also not "players can hit ai during combos"
    Its "the AI can take hits during combos"
    It's the same mechanic that allows n.c. or hood, or whoever else, stop changing stances while blocking without noticeably dropping block. It's a freedom of movement that the a.i. has, that we cant utilize regularly.
