Casual here seeking advice, opinions and tips

I'm a casual player who plays the game for fun because I just honestly have always been a marvel fan. I don't do alliance, I don't care about ranks or prestige, etc. I've played for several years on and off but never invest constant time and mainly money into mcoc. I'm not uncollected still and have pretty much got stuck on "lines in the sand". I've always been one to rank up champs I always liked or enjoyed playing. Guess how I play has hindered my success in obtaining resources and elite champs to help me progress. I've been so unlucky with 5 star pulls and rng usually makes me wanna ask why I keep trying. I always keep up with Seatin's YouTube and tier list but tend to go the opposite direction because I don't enjoy having to have or rank certain champs to progress through stages of the game. I want to play what I want to play but at the same time I want to get farther in the game. I tend to spend resources I get on champs I want to play which ends up being frustrating because they don't help me progress. So I'm just wondering is it worth it to sacrifice my desire to rank up champs I enjoy but won't really benefit me to becoming uncollected to going to these champs that seem a must to get farther in the game? I don't buy all these offers, I don't want to spend my money to achieve this, and I hate the thought of having to fully invest what I do get into someone I don't particularly want to play to succeed. Guess a good example would be this example. I currently have a generic awakening gem and up in the air on who to rank up out of champs including magik, captain marvel movie, and Mr sinister. Going by tier list (seatin) magik and cmm would be the best options but I really enjoy Mr sinister. I understand that magik doesn't really need to be awakened but if I put all my resources into her then that leaves me nothing for anyone else. I really want to fully Max Mr sinister but will he be another champ I put all my resources in and still be in the same spot I was in last week, unable to progress?
