There's Solo Events, there's Alliance Events, so why not Global Events? Some events with small rewards could be an entertaining new concept. I really think that this community-as-a-whole event could be fun. Some possible events could be:
X Character Use - Used X character to earn points (more points the higher the star of the character)
Alliance War Completion - Complete Alliance Wars with your alliance to gain points (more points per Battlegroup)
Quest Exploration - Fully explore quests to earn points
