UC Iron man IW, counter & tactics?

I'm having big trouble with this months Iron man IW boss in UC EQ. I'm going for exploration, and so far he's had me use too many revives. What are your best tips against him.

My best champs are:
Duped Rank 4 5 stars: Hyperion, Omega Red, Darkhawk
unduped Rank 4 5 stars: MODOK, Magik
Unduped Rank 3 5 stars: Blade, Domino

    I used Hyperion’s SP1 all the way

He seems to autoblock Hypes SP1 often, and that knocks off a decent amount of my health. Seems risky.

    The nodes are:
    Fair is Fair
    Feats of Power
    Fury
Explosive Personality (this seems to make it difficult for me, since he sometimes autoblocks. And if he does that during hyperions sp1, for example, he quickly gains 5 stacks of armor up and takes away 25% of my health)

I also don't know the nodes right now, but I'm pretty sure I just used cap and heavy countered him until he was gone.

Bait heavy - dash back and throw heavy - repeat.

Is there any node preventing you from doing that?

I don't think so. I'm not good at baiting heavy, but maybe I can learn.

dont know about uc but talking generally, u can use heavy counter( especially hype) to fight imiw, this will make u pass his pesky auto block

Good tip. I finally took him out for the last time now, finished exploring that chapter. Not exactly following your tips. But practicing that I could probably have done it easier with way fewer revives.

Great job nonetheless! I'd really advise you to try and get a feeling for it, though, since it genuinely trivializes imiw. It almost feels cheesy.

Once you got that tactic down you'll wonder how you ever struggled against him lol.

Another cool thing about imiw is his ai behavior, when it comes to special baiting. All you need to do is just stand there and do nothing and 90% of the time he'll just throw his sp1 into nothing even if you're both on opposite ends of the arena.

Seemingly his ai is designed to try and catch people of guard with his sp1, when they decide to dash towards him. He's a really goofy encounter with a bit of practice.
Yeah, that describes fighting IMIW quite well. He catches me of guard a lot. Sounds like your tactics would make me hate fighting him a lot less!

Now full speed ahead to fight Aegon a few times more... Wish me luck. Any tips on him and silver surfer while we are at it?

you would not use one revive also if you have hyperion he is awesome and re parry trick always work for IMIW its fairly simple i one shoted him with a 4* maxed hyperion unduped so i am damn sure you can do it

Quite possible I could have, without revives. This old man needs some practice. But, I'm a casual player, and have been playing this for fun mostly. Studying up too much and practicing techniques takes out a bit of the fun for me.
A damn shame my reflexes aren't what they used to be 20 years ago playing CS either. Would have made the timing a lot easier.

Don't stress yourself too hard, though. The timing for the heavy bait tactic is quite forgiving actually. You could be caught by his heavy, if you're a bit too slow at the dash back, or if you try to throw your own heavy too soon/late.

    Imiw's heavy has 3 hits:
    1. his chest bump
    2. his hammer swing
    3. his sword slash

What you want to do is dash back before his chest bump and throw your own heavy while he's coming towards you for the hammer swing. Once you tried it a few times I'm sure you'll be like "ohhh... I see!"

Sounds way more complicated on paper than it actually is in practice lol.

    As to aegon and surfer:

For aegon I'd say your best options are hyperion or magik. Aegon is actually a pretty easy fight, once you understand how the nodes actually want you to play.
What I mean by that is that his additional power gain allows you to easily push him to a special attack with 1 combo, which you can then bait and go in for another combo, which allows you to bait the next special and go in for the next combo.
It might be a bit tedious, but you really only need to find a rhythm and it will be a long, but really smooth fight. For either of his specials you just need to move away from him and he won't reach you.

Whomever you choose to fight aegon with, start the fight of with holding your block until he wants to throw a heavy. Dash back and go in for a combo, pushing him to his first special attack. Then follow the steps above.

Now, with magik, I also mostly used my r4 magik for this, you can follow the tactic above and just throw sp3's. You'll do quite some damage, since aegon will have some fury buffs up almost all the time from you attacking him.

With hyperion I'd either also do sp3's or sp1's. The former are probably the safest tactic while the latter will probably do more damage overall through the incinerates.

As to his lazarus charges, those will essentially solce themselves. Either the fight drags on long enough so that you'll reach a high enough combo to remove them (20 hits per charge), or you'll do enough damage to just make him spent them.

Don't stress yourself too much, in this encounter those lazarus charges essentially only give him +100% health.

For surfer I'd probably also use either hyperion or magik, although surfer is a bit more tricky, due to the lifecycle node.

What you'll want to do in order to actually take him out is to knock him out with a heavy attack, which will trigger lifecycle and put it on cooldown, and as soon as it's on cooldown (the icon is on a greyed out timer) just throw an sp3 to finish him off.

Either way, learning to evade his specials is extremely valuable for that fight. You could try to powerlock him with magik's sp2, though.

You can do this! Good luck!
Thank you very much for really good advice, described in an easy way to follow. I appreciate it!
Now I'll make a serious run towards 100% exploration of a UC EQ for the first time!

Those T5 basic fragments would put me so close to rank 5 my first 5 star! It stands between Hyperion, Omega Red, and maybe Darkhawk.

3* ronan did surfer for me. One sp1 and he’s stunlocked, assuming a reasonably high sig level on ronan. It’s worth maxing him out as there’s always a boss you can stunlock every couple months. He can also clear any high buff paths like physical/energy resistance.
