Is it even worth trying a legends run?

I would like to make a legends run. I have a fully maxed R5 Corvus, resources, and am prepared to do full suicides. I am second guessing this because I hear that people that have already achieved this continue to do it month after month. Do they allow times from those that have already recurved legendary to compete? Why? if so.
