The Collector’s Crystal Vault, Unknown Location.
CRASH!
The alarms rang out as Taneleer Tivan ran down his polished hallways towards the sound of shattering crystals. “Carina, what was that?”
“It appears that someone has broken out of their crystal, and has escaped the holding area.” The automated voice said.
“Who broke out of the crystal?” The Collector demanded of his A.I. as he continued down the hall, passing crystal after crystal, the lights on the ceiling showing the frozen champions inside.
“Acquisition 120, sir. The one they call-”
“I know who he is!” The Collector then arrived at the shattered crystal, it’s shards spread across the floor, the reflection of the lights on the shards painting the ground an eerie red. The stone structures behind the crystal’s remains were covered in scratches, and the window was smashed, leaving a large, gaping hole to the outside in its wake.
That could only mean one thing: he had escaped, and Taneleer must have him before he could leave the premises. “Carina, tell the guards to be on high alert. We must not let him escape!”

Short pants escaped from his breath as he ran across the field, his intent on getting past the entrance to the compound that he could see in front of him, and the enticing scent of freedom that lured him out of his crystal in the first place. Freedom. Must get to freedom! Those were his only thoughts as he raced away from that wretched crystal vault and it’s dense hallways into the open air.
“Hey! Stop right-” He didn’t give the man a second thought as he grabbed his chest and flung him into the outer wall, not giving the man a second look as he hit the wall and flopped like a fish out of water onto the ground. Had he though, he would’ve noticed the outfit of Captain America, American hero.
Undeterred, the man continued forward, the exit to the outside, to freedom, just a few steps away. But, before he could reach the exit, a figure in a red cloak stood in front of the arched exit, blocking his way. The man lunged for the figure, his arms outstretched, but instead of making contact, he somehow missed, without his attacker moving a muscle. He landed on his side to the left of the figure, confused as to what just happened.
“What kinda magic do you got there, buddy?”
“No magic, just technology. Simple, really.”
“Do you know exactly who you’re dealing with?”
“Of course, I know all my targets. You are Acquisition 120, also known as Sabretooth. I am Guillotine 2099, and I will capture you.”
“Don’t get so sure of yourself!” Sabretooth launched himself at Guillotine 2099, determined to not let anyone get in his way of escaping. She dodged to the left, sweeping her blade across in a counter attack, nicking Sabretooth’s leg as she did so. He landed on both feet, and began running towards the exit.
As he neared closer to the precious smell of freedom, he heard a noise from behind. Turning around, he saw a red wave of what looked to be pure energy barreling it’s way towards him. Caught off guard, Sabretooth was knocked back and pain racked through his body.
“Isn’t degeneration fun?” The robot mocked as she strode to Sabretooth, her blade trailing along behind her. “Don’t worry, you’ll be back in a crystal soon enough, and this pain will end.” Loud stomps echoed around the field, and two Sentinels marched into view, their mechanical bodies looming over Sabretooth. “Take him to his holding cell.” The robots each grabbed an arm, and lifted Sabretooth off the ground.
Then he saw the holding cell, a small black box propped up against the main fortress walls with no windows and a solid door. The whole box appeared to be some kind of metal, but he couldn’t tell what metal it was. As he looked behind him, trying to get one last glance at freedom, he watched as the drawbridge gate shut, blocking his way to the outside.
Sabretooth then began to struggle, trying to squirm his way out of the Sentinel’s grip.
“Let me outta here!” He threw up his arms, tearing through the Sentinel’s thumbs and rolling away from their hands. “You wanna get me, you’ll have to put up more of a fight than that!”
“Okay then, how about this!” Guillotine 2099 swung her blade down, the red energy wave reappearing in front of Sabretooth. He leapt to the side, watching as the energy wave struck the left leg of a Sentinel. The injured Sentinel fell to his right, collapsing on top of the other Sentinel, causing them both to fall to the ground.
After the dust cleared, Sabretooth saw that one of the Sentinel’s heads had destroyed a small portion of the wall, giving him exactly what he needed. A way out.
“Die, you petulant mutant!” Sabretooth’s thoughts were interrupted by Guillotine 2099 lunging at him, her blade poised to strike. He dove under her, getting to his feet as she crashed into the ground where he was seconds before.
“Wanna quit yet?” He asked, moving ever so slightly towards the new hole in the wall.
“You fool! I will capture you, and put you in that box where you belong!” The box. A smile crept onto Sabretooth’s face as he realized how he was going to escape.
Before Guillotine 2099 could react, Sabretooth grabbed two pieces of ground and threw them in quick succession, then leapt into the air and came down on her with his claws, knocking her into the box. The force of her being knocked into the box caused the box door to shut, and the box fell door-first onto the ground, trapping Guillotine 2099 inside. That oughta hold her, he thought as he ran for the hole in the wall.
Leaping over the head of the destroyed Sentinel, he continued on, desperate to be as far away from this place as possible. However, he came to a sudden stop as he saw the wide gorge that surrounded the entire fortress, a seemingly bottomless pit that prevented him from crossing.
Looking to his left, he spied a small bridge that went across the gorge, allowing access to the other side. However, the bridge was retracting in on itself, so speed was of the essence. He sprinted towards the bridge, the sounds of gunshots behind him spurring him on even faster. As he ran on the bridge, he saw that it was now only half way across the gorge, leaving him no option but to jump.
As he reached the end, Sabretooth jumped, his legs giving every bit of energy they had to making the jump. As he neared the surface, he stuck out his arms in case he needed to reach for the gorge’s edge, but that was not the case. He cleared it with ease, rolling to slow him down as he landed.
He reared his head up and roared his success to the skies. He was free at last.

I hope you all enjoyed this! I was inspired by both @HeroBoltsy and my totally not failing English grade to write this. I’m very excited to get to write some more with Sabretooth, I’ve got some fun things planned. Look out for a few things in later issues:
Have any other champs escaped the Collector’s Vault?
Where is Sabretooth, what is he doing here, and most importantly, how can he get back home?
And finally, will the Collector just let Sabretooth get away with escaping? (Spoiler: No)
I hope you enjoyed, and I hope to catch you next week on Adventures of the Battlerealm Chapter 2: The Road Ahead!

On a side note, one of you or somebody needs to do a weekly interview with a forum member.
I’d love to, but I doubt that’ll happen. Maybe @HeroBoltsy should do it.
And that seems like a good idea, @Roofus . I'll have to see what I can do about that.
Edit: now that I think about it, I have a feeling it's guilly99's sp3
