Rift chronometer question

So I’ve been asked an interesting question in regards to this chronometer. Or whatever it’s called lol. No matter what tier it is though in this instance I will go with tier 4. So that’s 3k Intel and includes one entry in bundle. The question asked was say u save 3000 intel, and then another 500. U use the 500 intel extra to enter the rift, u see something u like so rather than waste 3k on a chance of your awakening gem or whatever it is u are chasing. Can u then return to store whether through force close or through home option etc to buy the chronometer and then go back in and use it for what u want. Thereby guaranteeing that your 2500 which is the actual cost of just the chronometer not the rift entry that’s included with it is well spent and not wasted on potentially not getting your item of choice?
