Blocking parts of special attacks?

In recent days it happened plenty of times - during longer special attacks (e.g. aegon sp2) even if it lands the first hit, opponent blocks the last part and punishes immediately. I've been also able to block parts of special attacks (e.g. with venom the duck and symbiote supreme) from opponents, even if the first hit clipped me. I've seen somebody mentioning this in a longer thread few days ago, but cannot find it now.
I'm running Android 10, on Mi Mix 2s
