Can't use my chronometer???

Hey guys, I have a question. So, today I got the compensation rewards from Kabam (10,000 intel) and bought the tier 4 chronometer bundle(I was never going for the chronometer, I was buying rift detectors the whole time). And so I entered the rift, and I wanted to save the chronometer for last (I was going to pick up an awakening gem or 10,000 5 star shards) so I didn't take the path of the chronometer and used the rift detector for a random reward (which I got, 1,000 5 star shards) and now I don't have any more rift detectors. so then I try to go in to actually use my chronometer, and it says I can't enter because I don't have a red rift detectors. Was this a big fumble on my side? Did I have to take the path of the chronometer the first time? Did I really just waste 3,000 intel? Will I at least get a refund of intel? Really wanna know, please tell me if you know anything about this.
