Mcoc testing

From time to time issues come up in the game that are identified by the players and then fixed via a patch or future release. It feels like for whatever reason the testing processes are not quite as good as they need to be.
Assuming that the dev sprints are running around 3 months ahead of release, would it be possible to involve the community in testing?
I can appreciate that this would be a difficult thing to work but, given all of the feedback that has been coming from the community recently there are clearly a lot of players who want to provide help / feedback.
The CCP, forum guardians, players who help with the beta testing, end gamers, there are many who I expect would be keen to participate.
What do you guys think?
Could this help or is it just stepping on toes?
