Monthly Quest 2.1 Unnecessary extra path

So I finally got started on this months quest and when I got to the first part of chapter 2 I started mapping out my approach. I realized it needs 4 paths to complete the first section of the map, but will need a 5th pass just to get one empty node in the center of the 2nd section. Why is that?
I can kill every opponent with 4 passes but need to do one full additional pass just for an empty node? I thought Kabam said they weren't going to do that anymore. What a waste of resources.
