Off season AW - Own Defenders and placement - No rewards. Thoughts?

If you could do off season AWs using your own defenders and placement for no rewards, would you think this would help your alliance build better experience to help in season AWs? Current off season AWs sometimes have alliances not having any placement or mediocre placement which ties up your champions for no purpose except the rewards. Off season AWs are for practice in many alliances to help build defense placements and attack strategies in my opinion and many others. This could help make better players. Thoughts?
