Omega Red in cavalier difficulty

I was using OR in cavalier difficulty quest 5 today and noticed that he wouldn't purify his bleeds to then gain the prowess passive. is this an ability I am missing or a bug?

Yes it looks like this prevention acts on himself, too. I noticed that with low spores I was able to purify, but over 10 I was never able to do it

As stated it is intended, he lowers the chance the node works.

Doesn't work for AA as well. Apparently AAR affects the node, which is so counter-intuitive. The bleeds you get before you get a neuro can tick you to death.
