Depends on the alliance you're running, being a leader/officer in a newbie alliance can be frustrating if you're teaching new players the ways of the game, checking activity, or participation, etc......If you're in a very high tier/competitive alliance it can be cumbersome and time-consuming.
I have it pretty easy, as an officer in my alliance (26M/veteran/semi-retired) everyone knows what they're doing, doesn't need to be reminded to join AQ, etc. so it's not stressful...The only part I hate is recruiting when someone decides to take a break from the game..which doesn't happen to often, we have a low turn-over rate.
