Torch Pre-fight fail to activate in War

I was just doing a war miniboss, and my torch prefight failed to activate. I turned it on, but immediately started to get incinerates rather than nova flames. Admittedly, I played very poorly, but I would have successfully solo’d the fight had the pre-fight activated correctly. Video below. I play on an iPhone XS with most updated iOS
