From the rants and cries from the Cavalier deals, it sounds like everyone was expecting to be able to "purchase" the thronebreaker title.
I would have liked to see more 6* crystal/shard Cavalier options so the people who had T5 class catalysts from the Abyss run had more options to be able to use it on champs that were more worthwhile. I got lucky and pulled a Mystic and Science (one on each account).
Why wouldn't they? If upper end cav players are close to forming a t5cc or two they would've most likely done so if today's deals were exact replicas of the 4th deals. Even in threads speculating today's deals I said the cav tier would be a big step back and the consensus was they would be dwarfed by TB but at least be as good as the 4th were. For the top half or so of cav players what they were offered today is really bad all things considered, the reaction to that shouldn't be surprising to anyone.
And as far as the whole "purchasing" the title argument goes just look at what gifting offers the biggest spenders next month, there's nothing excluding a cav tier player who just happens to be incredibly well off from walking away with a top spot and buying the title and then some. I kind of get what Kabam is going for separating cav and TB but the cav tier is too vast to lump them all in on what basically should've been deals for new cav players.
To be fair, no one spending the amount required to get anywhere near the top of gifting ranks isn't going to not be TB already.

I'm pretty sure a significantly large portion of thronebreakers bought their titles too either through cash offers of t5cc crystals & selectors throughout the year (including July 4th deals) or spending units to finish abyss.
Those that didn't spend, grinded those units...just like the F2P cavs who have 16K upwards sitting in their account with nothing worthwhile to use it on to progress their accounts today.
The only difference is timing.
Probably true for some, I hardly get those offers because they are just so expensive and not worth it at the place where I am in the game.
I did Abyss of Legends easy run in a day in hopes of ranking 3 of my 6*. Like I said, I got lucky with a catalyst for a worthy r3 6*; others not so much and the easy path only took about 1500 units. It's not impossible if you've been cavalier since the beginning and finished (not explored) ACT 6. If Kabam did it right, they would have offered more 6* shards for the cavaliers so that they can get their chance of opening a worthy 6*.
This year is the only time I've spent close to $100 on this game only because I have 2 accounts.
And if you cant do Abyss because you don't have the right champs; you probably need to open more 5* crystals (and Kabam has given us that luxury of dual class crystals). There are those who get super friggen lucky, but I'm talking about the 'middle class' here.

Yeah - I got all the right champs - R5 (max sig) & R2 DOom, r5 Fury, R5 Aegon (max sig), r5 torch, r5 void (max sig), R2 sym supreme, heimdall (r4). I just don't like long format fighting. I've only done LoL once.
I may bie the bullet aftre halls of healing but as a very mdoerate spender whateverhappens I'm definitely dialing down my spending. These deals don't cast the road map in a good light no matter what they doif titles separate playres.

I hate long fights too... but much like running into the rain to get to your car, you just gotta suck it up and do it if you want the title. It's just better to do it prepared with stashed goods rather than a stashed wallet that's going to be empty after Abyss!
Thronebreaker has got some perks Im looking forward to in the Sigil store. Abyss and Act 6 was a rite of passage, but if you did that and still got crummpy 6* champs, then my condolences.

Just sort things out over the next few days and give extra stuff to those who purchased cav offers.
