Not Being Able to Select Different Rank Up Gems

Noticed this issue yesterday when I went to go rank up my AA. I have both a rank 3 to 4 mutant gem for any mutant, and 3 to 4 generic 2017 gem. I would like to use the generic 2017 gem on AA and save the mutant for someone else like if I pull apocalypse or something but the only option is to use the mutant gem. I went to the 2017 gem straight from inventory and when I click on it, it only gives me the option to "rank up champs" which takes me back to the champion page.
Is there any way to resolve this? I feel like we should be able to choose which rank up resources we want to use since these gems are pretty rare and valuable.
