Background acting as if a special has been thrown at the start of the fight

When a special is thrown, the screen gets darker, however this has been happening at the start of a lot of fights for me.
Basically, a fight will start and if I parry, the screen (or background) darkens the same way as when a special attack happens.
This has been happening a lot and seems to stop my inputs being registered sometimes. Haven't seen anyone talking about this so not sure if it is just me it is happening too?
