AW issue for me

I just fought an archangel with my archangel on node 45. I would connect on a parry, immediately go into his heavy attack and after the 1st hit of his heavy spin the opponent was able to active his s1. This happened multiple times during the fight so it wasn't a single isolated incident. My question is "how is the AI, without cheating, able to interupt a heavy attack with a special?" I've tried to deal with all the glitches and everything else and adapt but this new update with this on top of dash issue has made the game I love almost unplayable. Please tell me a "legit" fix is on the way and not just the lip service usual "our team is looking into it" routine.
