Heavy Attack Special canceling (Bug or am I bad? :P)

Some champs require you to charge a heavy and cancel it with a special attack like Cosmic Ghost rider, Prof X and Storm Pyramid X. Often while I'm holding the heavy the special attack button doesn't seem to work. I'm clearly pressing it but if I'm holding the heavy at the same time it's very inconsistent to fire the special. Sometimes it works though so is it a bug or am I missing something? For CGR it's ok to just release the heavy and then quickly press the special before the heavy connects which works 100% of the time for me. For Prof X I don't always get the extra prowess when I do it this way and for storm this doesn't really work so I try to cancel it before releasing the heavy but the special often doesn't come out. Anyone have this issue or advice?

I cant nail the timing with CGR.

Just practiced it in ROL and it was working pretty well atm. So maybe it's just my phone screen being unresponsive at times or phone lag caused by overheating if I play for a while. (Iphone X) Or a positioning problem with my thumbs as with CGR using the quick release method I never mess it up but with storm I need to never release the heavy, but that risks the special never coming out at all (similar with Prof X)
