Red Guardian issue with V7

In Red guardian’s abilities it say that as long as he has shield charges, he can block unblockable attacks. I was just fighting the Venom boss in variant 7, and even with full shield durability Venom’s SP2 shredded right through my block. Is this a bug or am I missing something?
