Why does Alliance Wars Feel Harder than other Content?

If u take a look at the other games mode like the story quest, eq and sq, incursion and aq, Alliance wars are generally one of the hardest (unless u r a quaker). Why is it so? Is this because of the nodes? Or is it because the AI works differently in AW?

Also you can make aw easy — just join an alliance that doesn't care about wars a lot but still plays it for extra rewards
