What happens if I use Apocalypse's Prefight and then use Apocalypse?

I know he doesn't get the Horseman ability, but does it just stay active until the next mutant enters a fight, or is it wasted if you use it and then use Apoc? I'm just wondering for those cases where there's two mutants in a row in a fight and I want to dump his charges before fighting the second one and getting them back.
