Thing protection triger failed by parry in Grandmaster quest (otherwise he is a decent option)

As thing's awaken ability said here, also in Grandmaster quest all the opponents have 300% bonus attack. I have tested thing in Doom and Terrax fight. it doesn't trigger thing's protection by parry(like in incursion). Is that a bug or something I'm wrong???

Pretty sure their base attack rating is decided AFTER the damage boost

From my knowledge blocking/ parrying reduces damage taken which for se reason stops things protection
