Variants, but with a twist!

Variants have existed in this game for a decent chunk of time, and very rightfully so. Variants are both fun and challenging, and offer some great rewards in return. So here's a suggestion I have for variants: how about, as opposed to experiencing old event quests all over again, summoners get to experience old story quests all over again? I think it would be cool if summoners could re-visit Act 4, for example, but this time, they'd be fighting a different and much more menacing Thanos. What are your thoughts on this little suggestion?
