In terms of units, how should you budget for higher end content?

I'm Cavalier and almost done exploring Act 5. I haven't done any Variants yet. I try to complete all content without using revives and if I can't do it without using more than a couple I just quit and come back in a few months.

This is getting untenable, and I know most people save up tons of revives or thousands of units to do Abyss or RoL or whatever. How should I be budgeting for this stuff? Should I feel bad if I can't do a certain Variant without units, or what is a normal amount to need?

    hoard 4H free crystals, get to at least the 3rd milestone in every 22H solo event, take your time to complete content and you won't have to use any unit for your items (aside from really big things like abyss or a legend run) ^_^
