Depends where your roster is. Let’s say you have 10 6*s. I would go for the basics, because chances are you’ll get 2 new champs. But if you have 100 6*s and you’re just hunting a select few, then a 6* nexus would be better
Well just remember that it's not 2 basics vs one nexus, it's 15k vs 1 Nexus, which is a lot closer of a comparison.
I'm assuming OP, that you mean you have over 5k shards already meaning 15k shards gets you to 2 basics.
I think both are pretty equal, Nexus is more likely to get you a good champion, the extra 5k shards would get you more champions. Both have pros and cons.
It depends a little on where you are in the game. If you are early on in your 6* collection, two champs might be better than three choices for just one, but the three choices give you a better chance for a great one which might be beneficial if just building a 6* roster isn't really your top priority right now.
Personally, I'd probably be most happy with a Nexus since I'm hunting for good champs in certain specific classes, and three choices give me more options. But you might be somewhere else in your progression.

I think it boils down to two shots at a good champ or choice of three - thought it posed an interesting question
