Alliance War Matchmaking - country origin

Perhaps this is a situation that is unique to my alliance but I have taken over an alliance where the previous leader who created the alliance was based out of Europe.
Since I’ve taken over we still have a few players in Europe but the majority of our alliance is now based out of North America.
We seem to only be matched with alliances from Europe during alliance war.
It’s not a big deal as it doesn’t really effect the results of wars but it might be nice if the matchmaking was determined a different way than it is currently which I’m assuming is based on the country the leader who created the alliance was based out of.
We run into a lot of alliances that don’t speak English, so no friendly trash talk taking place that would spice up our wars a bit.
We also never get a chance to war with any of the players that we come across in global chat.
