Reduce Particles with a Slider

My game used to run fine. Over time it has got more and more jerky or prone to pausing on certain champions, and it's always the ones with some or lots of particles onscreen. [Note: particle systems don't just do particles, they do smoke, fire, decorative lights, etc.]

Human Torch (fire) was always painful, especially against Sunspot (fire), but now Yondu slows to a jerky crawl every time his arrow is moving (smoke) which didn't happen before.

I don't care if Yondu's arrow makes a nice smoke trail, I care if I am getting hammered because it's running at a few frames a second or worse.

Can you please give us a slider in settings to reduce any particles except essential ones (and there are almost no 'must have' particles), just cut back or remove the cosmetic ones, to help those with this problem to get back to better speed - you could significantly increase the number of devices able to play the game well. [I'm guessing that if fixing or speeding up the particle system was possible and on your to do list then it would have been done already]

PS please, let's not do the 'get a better phone' answers.

Once again I find myself bemused by the dislike without a comment. What's your issue? I don't mind if you disagree and say why, because then we can talk about it, but just the downvote without reason? Here, let me help by guessing your reasons.

You like that others have their games running slower, so you can feel better than them? (because even with the slider I propose it'll never run *faster* than yours, right?).
Or you have something against people who cannot or do not buy the latest devices just to play games? (because a friend of mine has a Samsung S21 Ultra and he still gets slow downs sometimes).
Or you need the advantage in playing against other teams, because your basic skills in the game aren't good enough?

    Yeah, thought so.

Whoa, the disagree button just means they disagree lol, no need to get annoyed. I think a slider would be a decent idea but a bit tricky to implement on kabam’s side

Sorry @Crcrcrc , you're probably right, thanks! But I have found a fair number of people on this forum that basically just want things to stay exactly the same, with no changes, whether improvement or not, to the game; or maybe it's a little less... altruistic than that.

In this particular case, joking aside, the person who disagreed either does have a problem with the game slowing down (in which case why would they disagree with something that might fix it for them?), or does not have that problem, in which case they are disagreeing with something that might benefit others (or rather, remove an unfair disadvantage from others) and doesn't affect them at all. Feel free to guess which it is. So you have to wonder what that's about, really.

As for implementation, not at all tricky (this is something I know about, with a lot of experience in this field). A slider is super easy; likewise, implementing the effects of the slider would be easy, and could be implemented either in the relevant particle functions or on a case by case basis rolled out across the different champions over time - the latter being the most likely as it would be more granular and less likely to cause accidental loss of essential particles (if there are any 'essential' particles). Ideally each particle effect would be given a priority number, and the slider could allow you to include/exclude some or all as needed based on your device.
