I brute forced my first run with HT/Flame On and finished him off with iBom, but guessing there is a better way.

Just don't Parry/stun, bait SP1 and put up with the relentless 'fun and interactive' damage every time he throws a special (when over 7 Energise buffs) and you'll be fine.
Mystics obviously best, since you avoid the aforementioned damage, and can Nullify loads of buffs. But I've found using the left-over Skill champs from clearing the path generally works fine; as long as you've avoided bleed champs.
