Please help with clarification on gifting coming up

This will be my first December on MCOC. I've grinded units on my main and an alt account. I understand the requirement of being in an alliance for 14 days prior to the event to take full advantage of the event. Is the only way I can gift from my alt to main account, is if they are both in the same alliance? I'm not sure how the process works, and want to be fully prepped for roll out. Thanks

There is a separate event for alliance gifting, which gives good rewards, hence a lot of people try to be in an alliance, so they can make the most of it. The catch is, you need to be in the alliance for 14 days before qualifying for rewards.
To answer your question, you can still gift from your alt to your main and vice versa, even if they are in different allies, or no ally at all.
