Alliance gifting event question

My best friend got back into the game after being off for a few years and joined my alliance about an hour before the gifting event started, will what he gifts now count toward the event by the end of the event?

He can gift only in the last hour of the event. There's a timer for him in his alliance events. Once the timer is done, he'll be eligible to gift. Till then anything he gifts won't count for alliance gifting objective. He'll need to calculate the time he'll have at hand and be quick and prompt about his gifting.
