Ranking up a champ while they are in war attack

So I have a CGR that I’m contemplating putting in war attack and all I need are the alliance quest rewards then I can rank 5 him. But I don’t want to just not join war so if I join war with him and rank him up once I get aq rewards, will he have the rank 5 power and stats?

    No, whatever mastery and rank or level the champ is in, that is the state captured for that war defense.

    Sorry, I thought you meant defense. For attack, any changes to the champ will be updated in war for attack.
