4 star awakening gems

Hi,
I am currently experiencing a problem with non basic 4 star awakening gems. I am loaded up (5/5) with the non-basic awakening gems but when I try to use them, no champion is shown. When I pick the basic 4 star awakening gem, I get a full list of champions which include every category (cosmic, tech, etc.). Is anyone else having this problem? Am I doing something wrong? Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.
