Are we sure when the change was made that went from default opt-out to default opt-in that it was actually swapped?

The opt in was fantastic for me, but when they went to defaulting the opt-in it went back to terrible controls.

I just turned it off and ran some ch7 and hit every block and every dex

I have found having the new input system turned off is better as well.
