Inconsistent gameplay

Hi, I’m a pre-paragon (need those R4 6*s to get paragon) - I’ve been playing the game for over 2 years and I can say I’m not that bad of a player. However, only recently I feel that the gameplay is very inconsistent. I always get smashed when I believe I have parried but it didn’t register and it’s becoming more consistent. I run map 5 in AQ and I’m starting to use items because I’m leaving myself open when it should of been a parry.
Is it me or is anyone else having this issue? Very frustrating and I want to keep playing but I’m slowly losing my patients on it.
