Cornered node working FOR suicide masteries?

Is it normal for a defender that is running suicides to be able to use those for a Cornered node? I thought Cornered was based on what the Attacker did to the defender - never noticed this “problem” before. I took a champ to the node specifically that didn’t produce debuffs and got hammered. 🤷🏾‍♂️

It’s working as intended. It just specifies any DOT debuff. Doesn’t have to be applied by you

Because the next champ I brought in, it didn’t do that at all. Keeping in mind I brought She-Hulk first time and Nimrod next: IM Abomb reached SP3 after 5 hits against She Hulk (1 Fury on 5th hit no sp1 yet) and took 13 to barely fill SP 2 against Nim (where it got locked).

Also, I’ve played the same node against Omega with suicides and same normal behavior when I brought Warlock - sure his death spores started immediately but there was no increase in power.

I expect the node to react to player’s champs but not Masteries that way. Sure, the masteries apply to the champ but not the node.

But nodes are considered to be the champions abilities too. That’s why they’re subject to AAR and such.

I agree about the champion’s abilities, that wasn’t my issue. I have to look at the node again to see if Maratox said is true to the letter.

Like I said, second champ was a breeze and many Wars before that never had suicides affect that node like that…that I noticed.

1. Masteries and nodes are all considered abilities of a champion, and therefore are capable of interacting with each other

2. You note a discrepancy when using she hulk vs nimrod and warlock. Do you by chance run collar tech mastery? It shouldn’t make the power rate normal but it might decrease it enough to be noticeable

3. Were the cornered nodes the same potency each time? They can vary in terms of how much power rate is increased

Ok so I didn’t take it correctly? The node says:

Cornered
Whenever a damage over time Debuff is applied ( I thought this to mean by the attacker, but, ur right, it DOESN’T specify that) to the Defender, they gain 200% more power for the duration of that Debuff.

So by that, if someone places a champ and they are running Liquid Courage and Double edge masteries, they should get 400% more power. That means the same goes for Redoubled Determination… all my years playing, I never noticed that 🤦🏾‍♂️

So if someone is watching closely enough, they could just switch their masteries when someone gets to that node, specifically, and then turn them off after said fight (just a hypothetical cuz I don’t know why anyone would do that - but if what is being said is correct, then technically it IS possible) 🤷🏾‍♂️

@Maratox the only skill based Masteries I have ever used were Mystic Dispersion, Cosmic Awareness and Pure Skill…had no idea about Collar (which is odd because Ultron was one of my go-to champs, even before his buff) Then Kabam started nerfing Masteries and I kinda lost interest in changing them (why put in the work if they will nerf them anytime they feel?)… but now that I look at it, I might do that. Is it mostly Cosmic champs that get power gain though?

The masteries that are active when the defender is placed are set in stone. So if someone places with suicides inactive, they can’t then activate them before someone gets to that fight so the defender has them at that specific moment.

@ItsDamien Even better - so I can just set my suicide masteries up for a minute, place my “suicide friendly” champs and switch the masteries back right after I place. That should make good use of my units now that they are taking away any Gifting events. Thanks 🙏🏾 👍🏾

This has always been a point of contention. I agree with the op. It should not work this way. Regardless, it IS working as intended. Even though the intention is trash.

Why is it trash? Suicides are a DOT debuff. Yes it’s more annoying to play around but there are options to it.

Maybe they could fix the wording a bit. You seem to be getting caught up on the word "applied" and obviously believe that wording means the attacker has to be the cause of the debuff. Maybe it should be changed to something more like "for each dot debuff active ..."

That’s not how masteries work. Your champs lock as you place them.

Regardless, there are examples in game of abilities that apply immediately after the start of the fight. This would be an instance where it’d be appreciated. It’s working as designed, clearly, but depending on what tier of war we’re discussing, that might be a bit much. Imagine Ikaris with energize buffs and suicides…
