It’s been at least a year I think, but we had an event where we could trade Awakening gems. Any chance of that happening again? I’ve spent 3 million loyalty on awakening gems now, only all I have to show for it is unneeded/unused skill gems.

If it was a trade-in event with limited options like last time (1 of each 'anything but X' Gem) it shouldn't be unbalancing.
It would be GREAT if they could give us an official heads up beforehand so expectations can at least be slightly tempered.
Regardless, even if the exact same store doesn't return, I think *at least* some sort of low-level trade-in store might happen as a sort of "summoner appreciation" or "game anniversary" event special. Edit: but don't quote me on this.
In the conversations I've been a part of, I've not heard anything about the awakening gem/sig stone store returning in the near future. I think it's important information for you to hear, because I've seen a few players mention they're hoarding their items waiting for it to happen. Now, on the flip side to this, if it were to return in the distant future, I don't want to hear people saying "JAX TOLD ME TO SPEND AND NOW I CAN'T TRADE IN!" I'm saying that as of now I've not seen any indication that it's on the near horizon.

Saying that, you could feed back that the community loved the event and would like it back? They could just say no but do it anyway Jax, for the community!
Red mags just gets more energy damage, which is helpful, but I think Prof benefits most.
His play style lends itself to parry/heavy to build prowess, so you're going to gain a lot more damage without changing how you would play him. The crit resistance and damage cap are a nice buffer should you get clipped.
Sauron's passive damage is super niche, and likely wouldn't trigger often, and the prowess boost isn't worth it in my opinion.
Prof-X is a very defensive based benefit, cause attacking, you can build charges through parry/heavy faster anyway. The prowess boost he gets is nice, but it scales with power, so it's a risky play style, cause if you seek max benefits and don't kill, you're getting wrecked by a sp3.
And Platinumpool....I'm just surprised to see that as an option. Even if you just genuinely love him, he's not gonna be beneficial to you in hard content, so I wouldn't make that move.
There's no reason to be concerned about that. If your account is very good, there is no need to keep opening the 4/5 star awakening gem crystals.
If your account is not an advanced account, you will hardly have enough gems to exchange for a 6 star gem.
At least I'm saving mine, if it comes I'll be prepared, if it doesn't, it doesn't change anything, since 5 star champions at this point in the game don't serve much anymore, with the exception of magik, quake, torch and maybe some other that I don't remember. In any case, none of these three need the Signature Ability.
If you think otherwise, maybe you still use the 5 star, in which case you are probably not using the 4 star and the same goes, just keep the crystals.
It should come in December, I see no reason why Kabam can't bring it back. Soon we will have 7 stars and they are just awakening gems, it is possible to get one every month in incursions with an average cost of 1000/2000 units
