Does nightcrawler work as a defender in battlegrounds?

Don't have a ton of options and I kinda want a defensive rank 3 for battlegrounds. I thought he might work because he has class advantage to a ton of evade counters (for example Shang chi/stealthy won't apply slow and falcon has shorter lock-on in addition to lower attack ratings), doesnt have horrible health like most other evade champs, and on offense he has 2 buffs constantly for the meta and is budget hitmonkey. That still leaves apoc archangel and nimrod as easy non skill counters but I think it might be fairly annoying for most matchups with about 40% evade. Has anyone seen/used nightcrawler in battlegrounds? I'm cautious because I haven't seen him much in battlegrounds but it's possible he just wasn't ranked up often because he is nightcrawler. I also have no idea how reliably people can switch his stance, if they can he is useless, but if they think they can but can't it could be beneficial.

I have a few other common battlegrounds defenders as 6 stars that people use like mephisto, thing, killmonger, korg, and terrax but all of them seem to benefit from being awakened so I'm not quite sure how good they are unawakened. I also have Ironman iw, but he seems to suffer from being at class disadvantage to cosmic so I'm not quite sure about him either. I could rank pretty much whoever I wanted as a 5 star awakened but it seems like 6 star defenders are the way to go even if they are a bit worse. I thought nightcrawler might work under the same logic as someone like ibomb where you could easily counter him in story or aw but are limited for options in battlegrounds.

I fought an R3 NC once in victory track. You don’t need a counter. Not that hard as long as you know how to fight him.

That's disappointing. I was hoping 40% evade would be enough to slow the fight down, while also not getting banned.

I made it to Gamma 2, and Nightcrawler is on my top 7 ban list for me. I hate him and can’t reliably switch his stance. With that said, I haven’t seen him much at all, which means most people know how to counter him most likely.

I never see him either, but I thought it's possible he was just not used because he's pretty easy in other content. I use Magneto fairly frequently on defense and he kinda works the same way. Literally all you got to do to counter Magnetos is use any of the 2/3s of the champs in the game who aren't metal, but if your opponents is really metal heavy in round 2 or 3 they might have to waste a defender for Magneto or use an easy metal attacker on defense.

In theory I could force bad matchups pretty easy, and nobody wants to bring counters for class disadvantage, which is cool. In practice I just don't know that he would be annoying enough to ruin rotations just yet. If he evades a special attack or punishes mid combo even once that's enough so I can win but I don't know yet.

Having used NC in bgs I would say he is viable until mid GC. Everyone has their counters, and aside from his hard counters the other counters can be play style but that partly relies on luck or taking your time with lots of parries.

He doesn’t make it into all of my decks but does more often than not.

@limeade31 i wouldnt rank him because he's really easy to counter without a counter if you know what you're doing and i also like to assume that eveyone i go against knows what they're doing.

Kind of disappointing, but that makes sense. I thought having an evade champ with class advantage over most evade counters would be fairly useful bit if he gets mauled by every good cosmic it doesn't really matter.

One more thought: Just because you don‘t see him a lot, doesn‘t mean he‘s no good… I don‘t see Iceman a lot, but mine gets me a lot of wins when put on defense…

Personally, I hate NC as well and I could see him working with 5/5 Limber or when Kabam decides to introduce stun immunity as a node into BG.

@G-Hun-Gear I dont think they would do stun immunity thats a really specific node for bg's and would be pointless unless they want players to suffer
