Here’s the problem. Back in the day, players would force close the game when a fight wasn’t going well. They would come back with full health, AW there would be no loss of attack bonus, and they just moved on like nothing happened. That’s a significant issue. To circumvent that issue, they made it what it is today. If the game crashes, you lose (only) half of your health and in AW it counts as a death. There is no way for the game to be able to tell between a legitimate game crash or connection loss and a player force closing the game because a fight isn’t going well. This is the compromise to prevent players from abusing a workaround for poor play.
