What makes Future Ant-Man a great champion?

I am starting to reach the stage where it is harder and harder for me to learn about new champions and think about why I would need it over the 60 already existing top 10 champions of each class.
Not bagging on FAM, but I really want to know why everyone seems to be jumping on the FAM hype train.
Reading his kit, he seems just like any number of champions where you stack debuffs on the opponent -> SP2 -> Profit.
Aside from the unavoidable damage from Power Detonation, is there something I am not seeing here? Is it more about the playstyle flow, with combo loop + special loop + AI manipulation all just working in harmony?
Side Note: My point of view is more about using the champion. So the Glancing stuff is nice utility, but since the point is not to get hit when you're using the champion, it is not strictly that enticing to me. Sersi also has a similar access to Glancing and big SP2 from stacking buffs, but she remains unranked for me.

- great AI manipulation and power control
- Fantastic damage that doesn’t take long to ramp up at all
- Awesome utility at high sig
- He’s also a great defender in the right scenarios
You can often get through a fight without the defender ever throwing a special.
Has Armor ups on intercept.
First character to control his own powerbar
FAM’s glance is different than Sersi’s. His directly applies to his utility, accessing his damage and altering the AI’s behavior, whereas hers is more of a safety net for survivability.
This can apply to things as small as Valkyrie not gaining a combo, so she won’t start hitting hard on block. But it can also be as impactful as countering masochism or conflictor.
Since the parry occurs while the opponent glances, they have -100% AAR for the shrug off, and therefore cannot shrug your parry. So sersi can get consistent parries - all you need to do is charge heavy.
It’s a fun bit of utility applying to anything that occurs in the same frame as the opponent hitting you/your block

FAM seems relatively simple, but let me hit some highlights:
- Sig ability that provides regen buffs and reduces duration of bleed and incinerate. it also reduces a hit that goes over 10% of his max health to 10% and gives a regen buff after for up to 50% of the damage.
- 10% base glance unless they have a pierce effect.
- 40% passive power drain with the EPD
- PD passive allows for the Disintegration debuff (solid) and instant DisInts that essentially no champ can counter, which deals direct damage and reduces combat power rate.
- Stacking armor up buffs are easily accessible, increase glancing by 6% each, you can keep 5 permanently, pause during special attacks, and can turn passive if they fail to trigger or are traditionally removed.
- With 6+ armors (so three quick intercepts) you gain surging swarm, which gives you +60% attack, doubles EPD expiry, makes the opponent more aggressive (easier to intercept and control), and stuns the opponent on a combo ender (has saved my little ant butt several times already, and is not based on RNG).
- Has the option to selectively disable sp3, which is incredible for BGs and a variety of situations. Also, 4th L is non-contact.
- SP1 applies DisInt even into block, and the final hit drains .15 power bars per DisInt debuff on the opponent.
- SP2 hits do +180% attack (roughly) in instant DisInt while PD is active, +100% potency for each active DisInt debuff. Aka mega damage.
- SP3 gain 10 armor buffs and inflict a 60 sec Disint.
The only thing he is lacking in is a breadth of synergies. He has a lot of unique (or rare) utilities, really solid damage, is a pain as a defender for a variety of abilities, can gain buffs, can cause debuffs, can power control, can control the defender's aggressiveness, looks cool (personally, but he's certainly no Mojo), is a newer champ that most people haven't gotten used to fighting, deals with some specifically pesky defenders.......should I say more?Same!
